Richard Herd, the actor known for his role in many classic TV shows and films, has passed away today. He was 87 years old at the time of death. Herd died of cancer-related causes, surrounded by his family in his home. We know of his death from Richard Herd’s wife Patricia Crowder Herd. She was his wife for the past 40 years, from which they had a son and daughter. We wish his family the best during a difficult time and will remember Herd in our hearts forever.
He was best known for many of his TV portrayals. The best-known role by far is his role as Mr. Wilhelm on the infamous sitcom Seinfeld. He was part of 11 episodes, acting as George Constanza’s boss when he was with the New York Yankees. Other roles he’s known for are John in the TV series V, Roman Armitage in Get Out, and Tim Kennedy in 2018’s The Mule. There’s a myriad of pictures he was a part of, and you can find the full list on his IMDb page.
As said by The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Herd recalls that his audition for Seinfeld was quite a comical one. “It was easy. It was fun,” he said. “And as I left, I turned around and said, ‘Look, I have to tell you this. I hope it doesn’t make a difference, but I’m a Red Sox fan.’ and they all threw their script at me”. In the end, we know that he ended up securing the role and performed rather well in it. It’s a shame that in more recent years he was battling with cancer, as it would’ve been great to see at least one more performance from him.
Regardless, we once again send our wishes to the family of Richard Herd. Do you know him from any of his performances? Anything he took part in that you’re a fan of? Be sure to let us know.
