Earlier today, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4th has been officially postponed for the foreseeable future. An official reason was not given in the announcement, but one can assume the postponement is due to the protests surrounding police brutality and racism taking place all over America.

Sony took to their social media platforms to announce the delay:

We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4th. While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.

While disappointed, fans and developers, includingย God of War‘sย Cory Barlog, are in full support of Sony’s decision to postpone the event in hopes of illuminating the proper voices. Before its postponement, the PlayStation 5 event was scheduled to be over an hour long to showcase the line-up of next-generation titles.

“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” Sony Interactive President and CEO commented on the event.

As of this writing, the PlayStation 5 event has not been re-scheduled for a later date or time. With that being said, fans can still expect the console to release during the 2020 Holiday season. At this time, an official release date and price point have yet to be announced for the new console.
