Microsoft’s flagship franchise Halo is one of the most successful in the gaming world, spawning a number of games, merchandise and media including an animated movie and a show (with another animated series on the way with Fall of Reach). And recently, the Halo series has reached a new sales milestone. During San Diego Comic Con, Microsoft announced that the sci-fi shooter franchise had sold over 65 million across its three different Xbox consoles. The first Halo was released in 2001 for the original Xbox.

Halo: The Master Chief collection attributed to increase in sales

The series hit 60 million units sold in October 2014, roughly a month before Halo: The Master Chief Collection released, and around 5 million in the last 8 months. One of the most speculated reasons for the 8 month sales boost is the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, although current franchise developer 343 Industries released Halo: Spartan Assault on iOS and Windows Phone during that time frame as well. Ongoing legacy sales of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo 4, Halo 3: ODST Campaign Edition, Halo Wars and newer efforts like Halo: Spartan Assault will also have contributed to total overall sales.

Halo 5: Guardians launches in October and will most likely reach sales well over 70 million within the next few months. The game features two different perspectives in its campaign with Master Chief and Agent Locke, and will debut new multiplayer modes like Warzone.

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
