When Cuphead came out in 2017 it was a console exclusive for the Xbox that was never to see the light of day on other consoles. Since then, it’s released on the Nintendo Switch as well as being playable in some Tesla cars. It was even said that Cuphead would never see the light of day on the PlayStation 4. How times change.
There have been plenty of rumors of a PS4 release, but nothing seemed to be very concrete, until now. Who needs a big fanfare when you can just sneak a game onto a console? That’s right, Cuphead is now available to play on the PS4 as out of nowhere, it was dropped onto the PlayStation Store today, the same day as it was officially announced.
For those of you who are unaware, Cuphead is a side-scrolling platforming shoot em up that focusses heavily on fighting bosses, and cursing, at least in my experience.
Cuphead is a brutally challenging game that will see you having “just one more go” constantly as you face off against the many bosses on offer. It’s hard, yet with a 1930’s inspired animation style that’s so beautiful, it’s impossible to get too angry at it. There’s a reason Cuphead is getting a show.
When we reviewed it, we loved it, and if you don’t know too much about the game I recommend you giving the review a read here. For $19.99, Cuphead is definitely worth a download, even if you’ve played it before. If only all games could be announced and released this quickly. I’m sure that most of you are aware of this game and have most likely played it already, but for those of you that haven’t you’re in for a treat.
Let us know your thoughts on this surprise in the comments. Cuphead is out now on the PS4 and is available on PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
