After teasing fans at Sony’s recent State of Play, Remedy gave fans a deeper look at the upcoming, and final, expansion to their hit title Control titled AWE. Previewing the expansion on Twitch, AWE, or Altered World Events as they’re known in-game looks to be full of mystery and intrigue while not letting up on the base game’s chaotic gameplay its first expansion, The Foundation, are known for.

Littered throughout the gameplay reveal are winks, nods, and references to Remedy’s Alan Wake, which Control is crossing over with. At one point, protagonist Jesse uses light to get rid of darkness, similarly to Alan Wake’s signature gameplay. Remedy also showed off a new altered item that takes the form of an arcade machine. This machine allows players to replay four of the boss fights from Control, the famed Ashtray Maze mission, and a brand new horde mode.

On the PlayStation Blog, Remedy seemingly confirmed these two games take place in the same universe, and it’s a plan they’ve had for over a decade. Remedy also detailed a new Service Weapon upgrade, called Surge, Hiss Airborne Range, and hints at the expansion being moodier and more suspenseful than ever before.

Remedy wasn’t done with announcements for Control fans. Coming this holiday season is a limited-edition art book. Titled The Art and Making of Control, this book includes nearly 400 pages of behind-the-scenes content, including concept art, game design, narrative design, and world building to give a better understanding of not only how to make games, but a look into what it takes to create one of the most unique games to have come out this generation. Remedy partnered with Future Press on the book, and it’s available for pre-order for $59.99.

This news comes off the announcement of Control Ultimate Edition, a package that bundles together the base game, all updates, and the two expansions for a budget price of $39.99. Available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC through the Epic Games Store and Steam, this bundle also includes a free upgrade for PlayStation and Xbox gamers for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when it begins rolling out later this month.

AWE, Control’s second and final expansion, will launch on all platforms on August 27.
