As gaming has become more and more mainstream, some things have had to change. One of those things was the learning curve. Back when the industry’s target audience was made up entirely of ‘enthusiasts’ who didn’t mind spending all day grinding to make it past an impossibly difficult boss. For accessibility purposes most games, these days, have a friendly learning curve and bonus content that can be unlocked via cash. Well Street Fighter V wants to take you back to gaming’s glory days.

Good times…

Capcom have announced that the only time you will have to pay for content in Street Fighter V will be your initial purchase of the game. All balance changes will be free; no more having to buy an upgraded edition if you want a more balanced experience.

More interesting, is the news about how you’ll be able to unlock new characters. Those of us who got into gaming before online networks allowed for DLC, will remember that unlocking new characters and content involved hours of finger bleedingly hard challenges. Once you’d jumped through all the hoops the sadistic development team could think up, you’d get your new content; your pride in place and your wallet untouched.

Pride intact.

Well old school gamers and those with limited gaming budgets can rejoice. Capcom explained that, in Street Fighter V, new characters will be added over time an you don’t have to (you can if you want, but we’ll get to that). Using in game currency called ‘Fight Money’ (guess how you earn that) you can purchase new characters you want when they become available. This helps keep your gaming expenses down. Also, being able to purchase characters individually, instead of in bulk, will allow you to buy only the characters that interest you. This makes Street Fighter V one of the few fighting games where you can customise the roster to your liking.

If you do want to unlock them the easy way, you can use a second type of in game currency called Zenny which, you guessed it, you buy with real money.
