Solasta: Crown of the Magister is coming to Steam Early Access in the fall. The announcement from Tactical Adventures was revealed alongside a trailer during Gamescom 2020. Along with the reveal announcement, there is also another free playable demo for the tactical RPG on Steam. It runs through August 30 but, like the previous demo, you should still be able to play it as long as you don’t uninstall it from your system.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister is an RPG based off of Fifth Edition of Dungeons and Dragons. The key difference is the developers created their lore, world, characters, and magical items that stand out from the popular world owned by Wizards of the Coast. The gameplay is rather similar to other CRPGs and TTRPs like the Baldur’s Gate and Pillars of Eternity series. From playing the demo and watching the behind the scenes development diaries and trailers, it looks like it will play similarly to Baldur’s Gate 3.
Solasta is a team-based adventure game with a dynamic world full of monsters and heroes. Just like with the physical version of D&D, players will come across narrative challenges and encounter battles against creatures and individuals alike. Since it uses the rules from D&D5E, all the spells and customization options featured in the core books are in the game as well.
The trailer doesn’t reveal a whole lot of new gameplay but is full of cinematic shots. There are new monsters, spells, and what looks like a shove attack mechanic. It ends with a look at some sort of demonic entity snarling over a candlelit table. Not in a romantic way either. Tactical Adventures did not reveal an exact date for when Solasta is coming to Early Access. With Fall officially starting on September 22, it is assumed it will be around the end of September.

It will be interesting to see if it becomes available the same day as Baldur’s Gate 3 since both are based on the 5E rulebook.
