Fans might have to wait a little while longer for a general Nintendo Direct. With so much uncertainty facing the gaming industry, Nintendo has still showcased some splendid games coming to the Switch later this year. 3 new first-party titles that will come to Switch later this year. While these announcements are comforting, the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announcement will more than likely be the last first-party title for some time. After countless announcements in the Nintendo Partner Direct about COVID irreparably affecting development, the prediction of there being little left for 2020 comes at some surprise. Industry insider, Jeff Grub, described on twitter his thoughts on the holiday announcements from Nintendo, and what to expect.

I think this probably sets Nintendo's first-party schedule for 2020. Nintendo should have more Partner Direct Minis soon, though. https://t.co/zX8mnYYxPf

Having Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 3D World + Bowserโ€™s Fury, and Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is still an impressive lineup for the coming months remaining for 2020. The Xbox Series S and PS5 will also have a sizable library on their debut, but as Nintendo has remained for the past few years; the Nintendo Switch is doing incredibly well for being a 3-year-old console. While Grubb leaves some room for more 3rd party announcements and releases, it still paints a different picture when compared to the lineups set for the next generation of consoles coming in 2 months now.

Despite this, Nintendo still has more to come in the form of a pending Super Smash Brothers Ultimate DLC fighter and Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC. Despite the new hardware and increasing graphical capabilities, the Nintendo Switch will probably still be a great console for those looking to expand their gaming horizons this coming Fall. While the titles are great extensions of already-great Nintendo brands, it will be a very interesting year for video game sales. With the Switch still breaking new ground in countries like Brazil, it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the incoming competitors. Especially after quarantine has introduced many to gaming, the sales numbers and player counts have never been higher. Whether this spells bad news for Nintendo has yet to be seen and will only be exacerbated with the coming generation of gaming.
