Spelunky 2 is a sequel to the 2012 classic Spelunky, which was acclaimed for its intensive gameplay and secret modes. Your goal is to delve deep inside a complex cave system, fighting enemies and collecting items to survive.

Releasing first on the PlayStation 4, the game had some major slowdown and technical issues. However, frequent patches have improved performance and more. As a part of a PlayStation promotion, Spelunky 2 is a console exclusive on PS4 but would come to PC a few weeks later.
The Steam launch also came with some unfortunate news. In a blog post, the developers revealed that the game will not launch with online multiplayer. The first game launched with cooperative and competitive modes, but only on the same screen.
Cross-Play on PS4 and PC Coming Soon
However, there is some good news to look forward to. Spelunky 2 will feature cross-platform play on PlayStation 4 and Steam. The developers also noted that they are working on new content including online PvP.
While it is disappointing to see the online multiplayer not coming to the Steam version on the launch, it is refreshing to see a developer come out and be honest that it just was not working right. Instead of releasing a sub-par product, they will take the time to make it right the first time.
Spelunky 2 is available now on Steam for $19.99. The Steam launch also includes a 10% discount, and a bundle includes the game and digital soundtrack.
