Conchata Ferrell, three-time Emmy nominee best known for her role as Berta on Two and a Half Men, has died. She was 77.

An established stage and TV actress, Conchata Ferrell gained fame for her portrayal of no-nonsense housekeeper Berta on the hit CBS comedy Two and a Half Men starring Charlie Sheen, which won her two Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy nominations in 2005 and 2007.

Her other notable TV series include Good Times, ER, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, BJ and the Bear, and Grace and Frankie and she also landed an Emmy nomination in 1992 for her role as Susan Bloom on L.A. Law. She also had various movie roles in films such as Edward Scissorhands, The Mask, Mr. Deeds, and Erin Brockovich.

On stage, Ferrell, who was an original member of the Circle Repertory Theatre, received a Drama Desk Award, a Theatre World Award, and an Obie Award for Best Actress in 1974 for the role of Gertrude Blum in Edward J. Moore’s The Sea Horse. Her role as April Green in Lanford Wilson’s Hot L Baltimore was the turning point in her career that led her to Los Angeles and a starring role in the 1975 Norman Lear eponymous series.

In July, TMZ reported that Ferrell had gone into cardiac arrest. She was on a respirator and dialysis, and after four weeks in  ICU, she was recently transferred to a long-term care facility. The veteran actress reportedly died peacefully on Tuesday around 12:30 PM at Sherman Oaks Hospital, from complications due to the cardiac arrest.

Her fellow Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer paid his tributes:

She was a beautiful human. I’m crying for the woman I’ll miss, and the joy she brought so many.” Charlie Sheen added, “An absolute sweetheart, a consummate pro, a genuine friend. Berta, your housekeeping was a tad suspect, your ‘people’ keeping was perfect.”

Rest in peace Conchata. Our regards go out to her family.
