EA is unsure on whether Need for Speed needs to be released annually or not.

For the first time in a long time, there was no Need for Speed during 2014 as EA had decided to skip last year to reinvent the franchise. This year will see that reinvention in the form of a reboot that be taking inspiration from the games Underground and Carbon.

In an with MCVUK, COO Peter Moore revealed that EA is unsure. When asked about Need for Speed, he had this to say: “I don’t know if it will be, it’s an interesting question. We will see how this game goes. You can only bring it out annually if you can come up with real fresh ideas. It is the same thing we’ve been going through with golf. It is golf… is there enough innovation and creativity that you can go in there with and do something different every year?”

The game was shown off at this year’s E3 and the changes to the customization options were a big part of the presentation. EA also previously revealed that the game would require an online connection in order to play the game. That announcement was met with some heated criticism with comparisons to 2013’s SimCity which was unplayable at launch due to requiring an online connection.

Need for Speed is being developed by Ghost Games. The game will launch on November 3 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
