When it comes to children’s cartoons, there are a few household names out there. From Spongebob Squarepants to The Fairly Oddparents, there’s plenty for kids to enjoy. One that’s as old as time itself is the Scooby-Doo series, a cartoon about friends solving various mysteries. The laughs and entertainment from the show are iconic in every way, shape, and form. One of its co-creators, Ken Spears, is largely credited to his success. Unfortunately, that man passed away on Friday due to complications with Lewy body Dementia.

Scooby-Doo Ken Spears

Ken Spears’ passing comes just three months after his animation partner Joe Ruby passed away. The duo were the masterminds behind the Scooby-Doo, Where are You! television series which began in 1969. Since then, the show has gone on to huge commercial and critical success, spawning other various shows and movies. It’s one of the most iconic television series in the world, which I even remember watching as a kid. The passing of the creator duo is sad to hear, but their legacy will no doubt live on in the months and years to come.

The Scooby-Doo co-creator’s passing was originally revealed by his son, Kevin Spears. In an interview with publication Variety, Kevin had this to say of his father:

Ken will forever be remembered for his wit, his story-telling, his loyalty to family, and his strong work ethic. Ken has not only made a lasting impression on his family, but he has touched the lives of many as co-creator of Scooby-Doo. Ken has been a role model for us throughout his life and he will continue to live on in our hearts.”

We at The Nerd Stash are incredibly sad to hear of the news, and our condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. If you have any fond memories of the Scooby-Doo series, be sure to let us know in the comments.
