For a series we know so little about, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is widely anticipated. After all, fan-favorite Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor is reprising his role from the prequel trilogy. It tells you a lot that the 49-year-old Scotsman is often considered one of the best things about the said trilogy. This, of course, leads to other obvious questions. Who is going to star alongside him in the Obi-Wan series? We know it takes place between Episodes III and IV so this leaves room for plenty of original characters and actors to fill their shoes.
Thanks to Illuminerdi, we have an idea of who Disney is looking at to join the Obi-Wan series. First and foremost, the most recognizable candidate is Naomi Scott. She is most famous for playing Jasmine in 2019’s Aladdin. She is also notable for playing Kimberly, the Pink Ranger in 2017’s Power Rangers.
Also vying for the role is Thuso Mbedu, a South African actress who received an Emmy for the telenovela Is’Thunzi. She is set to appear in the upcoming Amazon Prime series The Underground Railroad. Indian actress Anula Navlekar is also trying for the role. Unlike Naomi Scott, she appears relatively unknown.
Together, these three actresses are trying for a role called ‘Riley’. Not much is know about her, other than that she is the co-lead of the series and that she’s a “female BIPOC”. BIPOC stands for ‘Black, Indigenous, and People of Color’.
Alongside said role are three Obi-Wan supporting roles up for grabs. These include Tia Female (30s) BIPOC Harold Male (Late 20s-30s) Bella Female (40s) SUPPORTING – Latinx.
Ewan McGregor claims that the series starts filming in March 2021. Meanwhile, an April 2020 French press release claims the series is scheduled to debut in 2022. What do you think about these choices? Be sure to let me know in the comments below.
