This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information.

In a world that’s three times the size of its predecessor, the tomb-ridden landscape of Syria in Rise of the Tomb Raider offers plenty to explore prior to the game’s anticipated 2016 release. So much so, in fact, that after Gamescom 2015, Microsoft and Square Enix unleashed 13 full minutes of new footage for our delight.

And it wouldn’t be Tomb Raider without opening with a bang. Lara meets immediate resistance from a militia group as her driver takes her towards the artifact she’s determined to recover. You know what that means. Plenty more bad guys to plow through.

The footage, however, doesn’t focus on her human adversaries. It shows Lara delving into a breathtaking tomb, more of which have been promised to appear this time around in Lara’s adventures, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. With graphics technology producing better results than ever, Lara and her environment look like real, living works of art. Just wait until you see her bangs whipping across her forehead in the car. It’s magical.

In dad’s notes, you say? Sounds like we’re going to get some more backstory! Good deal.

Writes comingsoon.net about Rise of the Tomb Raider’s plot, of which it seems up until now we’ve only had bits and pieces:

“In the critically-acclaimed Tomb Raider, Lara Croft survived a harrowing experience only to be discredited as part of a cover up. Now, after uncovering an ancient mystery, Lara must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organization known as Trinity. Lara must use her wits and survival skills, form new alliances, and ultimately embrace her destiny as the Tomb Raider.”

Succinctly put.

What’s also magical is that Rise of the Tomb Raider releases November 10, 2015 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. That’s just around the bend. While PC and PS4 owners won’t be able to get their hands on a copy for their consoles until 2016, it’s rumored to be early 2016, and that’ll be here before we know it…
