The Brothers Grimm eat your heart out – fantasy adventure puzzle game The Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood is coming to Steam Early Access on February 10.
The announcement was made by Headup via press release today. Scarlet Hood is developed by Devespresso Games, creators of the popular survival horror Coma series. Their distinctive manhwa style (as seen in South Korean comic books) is evident all over this upcoming release.
The game’s story follows the titular Scarlet Hood as she is transported to the realm of Glome via a rogue tornado. Upon discovering this strange and fantastical dimension, it isn’t long before she takes up the mantle of the Red Witch, leading a troupe of Munchkins through the forbidden Wicked Wood. During her journey, she meets a range of fantastical characters including witches, a tin knight, talking beasts and other monsters.
There’s just one twist to this fairy-tale however – Scarlet Hood’s Recursion Hex allows her to relive the same day again and again. This means that dying isn’t the end – rather, it signifies a new beginning. It allows for multiple opportunities for Scarlet – and, consequently, multiple in-game endings as the story branches out in different ways depending on your choices.
As you relive seven days of misfortune in Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood, you tackle puzzles while using Scarlet’s witching skills to avoid detection from potential threats. Aided by your trusty companion fox, you must make your way through the woods, wary of the hungry wolf that roams its trees and the wicked witch who casts her spells.
