The last mainline Puzzle Quest game was released way back in 2010. Since then, we have been given a few spin-offs and a well-received Nintendo Switch enhancement of the original, but fans haven’t been treated to an official part 3. Until now.
Announced today, Puzzle Quest 3 will be the first game in the series since 505 Games purchased the franchise’s developer, Infinity Plus Two, this month.
Due to launch as a free to play title for PC and mobile later this year (with other platforms still to be announced), Puzzle Quest 3 is set 500 hundred years after the first game and is set to feature the usual gem-matching, puzzle RPG action that fans have come to know and love over the years. If you haven’t played one, think RPG, but random battles are replaced with something like Bejewelled.
You can take a look at the announcement trailer below and whet your appetites:
Whilst the trailer doesn’t give anything away, it’s nice for fans to know a new game is at least coming. Leaks are one thing, but confirmation is another.
Following the announcement, CEO and Creative lead at developers Infinity Plus Two, Steve Fawkner, had this to say:
“After an overwhelming demand from fans over the past decade for the next installment of Puzzle Quest, we’re thrilled to finally reveal the development of Puzzle Quest 3. The vision for this latest project has been years in the making, and like any good Puzzle Quest game, it’s a delicate balance of gameplay, story, and strategic puzzle-solving while introducing something unexpected.”
Quite what the unexpected introduction will be is anyone’s guess, but he did promise that it will appeal to both old and new fans, so color me intrigued.
Let us know if you’re a fan of the series in the comments and how excited you are for the next entry.
Puzzle Quest 3 will release at some point later in the year; we’ll bring you more when it arrives.
