Blood Origin, the upcoming prequel series to Netflix’s The Witcher, has found its first cast member. The news, reported by Deadline, sees the 34-year-old British actress cast as Éile in the prequel, in a lead role. Turner-Smith is was most recently in the film Queen & Slim. Throughout her career, she’s appeared in multiple TV shows including TNT’s The Last Ship and HBO’s True Blood. She also had a role in SyFy’s Nightflyers, an adaptation of the science fiction novel by Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin.

An Entertainment Weekly report describes her character in The Witcher, Éile, as “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.”

Created by Declan de Barra alongside The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Blood Origin is set around 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. While the plot is still very much under wraps. It will explore the events that led to the creation of the first Witcher including the “conjunction of the spheres” event.

The prequel will run as a six-part limited series on Netflix. It is set to arrive in 2022. In the meantime, we have the much-anticipated second season of The Witcher to get excited about! Also in the pipeline for the Witcher TV universe is an animated spinoff, The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf. Similar to The Witcher: Blood Origin, the animated does not have a full cast nor a premiere date.

We should expect more casting news to come out of Netflix in the coming months.
