Playing with Power: A Nintendo Story takes us back to the begnning.
This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information.

Playing with Power: The Nintendo Story airs March 1 this year. This will be a five-part documentary series on the history of Nintendo, written and directed by Jeremy Snead, voiced and produced by Sean Astin.

In this The Nintendo Story, we will learn about Nintendo’s history, its beginnings, and how they managed to dominate a good portion of the gaming industry. Snead obviously has a history of doing game docs such as but not limited to Video Games: The Movie.

As initially reported by Deadline, Snead added:

Producing and directing Playing with Power has been a lifelong ambition of mine as an artist, gamer and filmmaker,” Snead said. “To see my show not only come to life with such loving care through my team and I’s efforts but to also have the opportunity to partner with such a talented and experienced team like Screen Media and Crackle to release the series to the public has just been a dream come true.”

So What’s This About Nintendo?

Nintendo was initially founded in 1899 under the name Nintendo Karuta, only to start making electronic toys and later consoles in the second half of the 1900’s. There’s obviously a lot of history there, so it will be interesting to hear how they went from making game cards to making virtual and technical magic. All this from the masterful storyteller Samwise Gamgee. I mean… Uh, Sean, uhm, Astin.

Playing with Power: A Nintendo Story, a story for the ages.
I think it’s about a journey.

We’ll hear from Nintendo’s veterans, people who were there a long time. People who did great things for Nintendo and gaming. Nolan Bushnell and Phill Spencer are also making an appearance. So expect to hear some interesting viewpoints from the industry’s finest. But there’s hardship and turmoil to every success story, and we’ll get the chance to see that side of Nintendo as well, this March.

And remember, “everything not saved, will be lost.”
