Monster Hunter Wilds may have been stuck at its initial sales milestone, but apparently Capcom isn’t ready to let it die just yet. Despite the game’s sales momentum slowing considerably, Capcom still believes Wilds can eventually surpass Monster Hunter World. During its Q1 fiscal year 2026 quarterly report, the company made it clear that its year-long battle against PC performance issues has borne fruit.
“Ongoing enhancements to the technical performance of Monster Hunter Wilds have led to sales for the game improving,” it mentioned in the report. “We have also seen a response to the announcement of the upcoming massive expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, and related pricing measures.”
But that’s not all, as Capcom says it plans to keep pushing the game’s lifetime sales beyond World‘s. “We plan to continue improving the game’s technical performance as we aim to drive its total unit sales beyond those of Monster Hunter World over the medium to long term,” it added.

That’s quite a goal, especially if you remember where the two games currently stand. Monster Hunter Wilds did reach 10 million units sold in its debut month back in March 2026. Making it the fastest-selling game in Capcom’s history so far. The biggest problem is that it has been sitting at that 11.8 million ever since.
Meanwhile, World has continued its ridiculous success and has now surpassed 30 million units sold. Rise even managed to get to 19.3 million sales across consoles and PC. The company reports that the cumulative series sales have now reached 131 million.
No doubt that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will bring series fans once more into the Forbidden Lands. The massive expansion is bringing back classic Monster Hunter vibes with floating islands and familiar faces like the dreaded Lao Shan Lung. But whether Wilds can actually hunt down World remains another question entirely.
Chasing 30 million copies is already a monumental task; beating whatever number World reaches by the time Wilds gets there will be even harder.
