Originally reported as a remake or reimagining, the Face/Off project isn’t exactly what we thought. Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla Vs. Kong, recently set the record straight for what his vision of the project is.
When the rumors of a Face/Off project originally surfaced, it was reported that the project would be a remake of the classic action film. However, Wingard recently set the record straight. Accompanied by a picture of Castor Troy, he wrote on Instagram, “I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OFF. It’s a perfect action movie. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL! :) :)”
Neal Mortiz (Fast and Furious) will produce for Paramount and David Permut will take on the role of executive producer for the Face/Off sequel. Simon Barrett (Blair Witch, You’re Next) is set to cowrite the script with Wingard.
Originally released in 1997, Face/Off is an action film starring Nicolas Cage and John Travolta:
Obsessed with bringing terrorist Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) to justice, FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) tracks down Troy, who has boarded a plane in Los Angeles. After the plane crashes and Troy is severely injured, possibly dead, Archer undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy’s. As Archer tries to use his disguise to elicit information about a bomb from Troy’s brother, Troy awakes from a coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer’s face.
