Fox animated comedy The Simpsons is still going strong, and to very little surprise, it will officially continue for seasons 33 and 34. The latest announcement has seen the show get renewed for two more seasons, seeing it surpass 750 episodes.

Beginning its journey in 1989, The Simpsons has now endured for almost 700 episodes. During that time, it has received a ton of awards, even getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2019, it became the longest-running scripted comedy in the US. And now, as confirmation comes from Variety, the series isn’t quite done yet. The new episodes will see it stay on air until at least 2023. Overall, the new seasons will bring it to 757 episodes in total. While still very far away, it’s slowly heading towards a near-unprecedented 1000 episodes. Will it ever reach that number?

Per Variety, Matt Groening shared his excitement to bring the family back to our screens. He also teased some plot points that we’ll soon see:

Everyone at ‘The Simpsons’ is thrilled to be renewed once more, and we are planning lots of big surprises. Homer will lose a hair, Milhouse will get contact lenses, and Bart will celebrate his tenth birthday for the thirty-third time.”

In addition, last month Deadline confirmed that the show had replaced the voice actor for Dr. Hibbert. Harry Shearer has been replaced by newcomer Kevin Michael Richardson in the role. Richardson has worked in animated comedies before, having previously done voice work in Family Guy and American Dad. In June 2020, the show said it would not cast white actors as non-white characters again.

The Simpsons is currently airing its 32nd season on Fox. Its landmark 700th episode “Manger Things” will air in just a couple of weeks on March 21. You don’t want to miss it.
