The first image and plot details of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender have released today.
Below is an image of Fassbender donning the traditional garb of a European Assassin. The actor is playing Callum Lynch, who will experience the adventures of his assassin ancestor Aguilar in 15th Century Spain.
The plot is very similar to that of Assassin’s Creed II, as Lynch discovers he is descended from the Order of Assassin’s and he must learn from his ancestors in order to take on the oppressive Templars of present day.
Macbeth co-star Marion Cotillard will appear alongside Fassbender in a role that remains undisclosed. The film is helmed by Macbeth director Justin Kurzel.
I feel relieved when I can compare the plot to Assassin’s Creed II, and Fassbender’s range will certainly help him differentiate Lynch and Aguilar. Kurzel’s direction may also indicate that we will see a Renaissance-era Spain and it’s defining themes further highlighted by a particular selection of colors, similar to what Kurzel seemingly attempts to do with the color red in Macbeth.
Assassin’s Creed, which begins shooting in a few days, is scheduled to open December 21st, 2016. For all your nerd movie goodness, stay tuned to The Nerd Stash.
