Just hours before the Ubisoft Forward showcase on E3 2021, Nintendo accidentally leaked the existence of the Mario + Rabbids sequel. The company’s official website Nintendo.com listed (now removed) a game titled Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope that will be released on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022.

As you can expect from the inclusion of a Rabbid Rosalina in the image above, space travel will play a huge part in this game. According to the product blurb, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and their friends will be thrust into a galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save the “Spark” companions who provide distinct powers that will help you in battle. As you explore planets throughout the galaxy, you can challenge an assortment of compelling quests and eventually uncover mysterious secrets.

The first game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, was an XCOM-like tactics game, and it seems Sparks of Hope will continue on using that particular gameplay choice since the page listed “strategy” as the title’s genre. This time Mario and his crew will still be equipped with a variety of weapons such as a bow, guns, and a parasol with a cannon attached to it. You can also dash towards enemies, team jump on your allies, hide behind covers, and unleash both your heroes’ skills and Sparks’ powers on the battlefield to strategically control the flow of combat. Just like before, you can build your Mario and Rabbids dream team with three heroes from a total roster of nine. Maybe Ubisoft and Nintendo will add more characters in the future via DLC.

Besides familiar faces in your party, the leaked Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope description added that the game will feature all-new bosses, along with “some familiar enemies” throughout the galaxy. Were you a fan of the previous Mario + Rabbids game and will you be getting the sequel? Let us know in the comments below.
