The studio behind Spec Ops: The Line, Yager Studios is working on something huge: Dreadnought. Dreadnought is a combat flight simulator for Microsoft Windows that focuses on large-scale wars between colossal capital ships and medium sized cruisers.
Players will choose from 5 different classes of spacecraft to wage war against the enemy in team death match and team elimination modes. Each ship is customizable and performs specific functions in a match. As you pilot your spacecraft you must make snap decisions where to divert the ship’s power between thrusters, shields, and weapons according to the situation.
First is the Destroyer. This large ship is a jack-of-all-trades and is the staple of any good team. The Destroyer is extremely versatile and by diverting power to any of its systems, it is able to fulfill a wide range of tasks.
The next spacecraft is the Corvette. This ship is extremely agile and is used to gain an advantage over your enemies by attacking their flanks or serving as a distraction lending your team’s heavy firepower an open target while the enemy is busy trying to line up a shot.
The Tactical Cruiser is Dreadnoughts support craft. This ship sports a beam turret that delivers sustained damage or repair a ship’s hull damage if targeting a friendly. This beam’s effectiveness can be greatly amplified but at the cost of leaving your cruiser vulnerable to enemy fire.
For all intents and purposes the Artillery Cruiser is Dreadnought’s sniper class. The Artillery Cruiser is an agile ship equipped with a long-range rail cannon that has a low fire rate but deals intense damage. If left alone, the Artillery Cruisers will make quick work of your team. This spacecraft is truly a glass cannon.
Lastly we have the Dreadnought. This capital ship is gargantuan in size and packs a tremendous amount of firepower, and can take withstand a significant amount of punishment. The Dreadnought can also be customized to release several small interceptors to overwhelm the enemy.
Dreadnought made playable appearances at Gamescom and PAX Prime and is set for release in 2016.
