Indie developer ‘Razor Edge Games’ working on Eden Falling, a multiplayer sci-fi, has recently announced a new partnership with ‘Epik,’ one of the producers of premium digital items. This can often be seen in the form of NFT’s, also known as non-fungible tokens. So why is Epik partnering with Razor Edge Games, you may ask? Well, Razor Edge Games are currently deep in the development of Eden Falling, a new multiplayer sci-fi RPG with unique mechanics. The player is a chosen survivor who travels the ‘wasteland’ and takes on contracts, hunting dangerous mutants and navigating the new Earth.
Within the game players can gather and obtain in-game collectibles and memorabilia along with the opportunity to own items within the NFT category as aforementioned. Epik themselves produce the digital items/NFT’s in a way that takes away a lot of the complications and concerns which are linked to the global environmental impacts of blockchain technology as a whole.
Notably, they utilize ‘HECO,’ and this is a hybrid system that causes less gas and energy usage for every transaction that happens within the Epik system, specifically only using 0.02 kWh of energy per chain transaction which is a 99.7% reduction of energy compared to Bitcoinโs energy usage of 657 kWh.
The future is looking very bright for Epik, and this system shows us that NFT’sโwhen made effectively with care to the environmentโcan be a massive blessing.
Epik is not new to acquiring partnerships of different companies and brands; recently, Epik has partnered with the streaming service ‘Funimation,’ along with the sports equipment company ‘Head,’ and many others. They also have partnered with Universal and the Warner Music Group. Seeing Epik taking its dive into the games sector is a pivotal moment to witness in terms of the usage of NFT’s within the games industry.
