Famitsu, the popular Japanese video game magazine, was trying to release screenshots for the recently announced Zangief in Street Fighter V. Instead, it appears they outed the third completely new character to the series (after Necalli and Rashid): Laura.
All the screenshots for Laura take place on the Brazilian stage, she appears to have electricity based abilities (like Street Fighter‘s most well-known Brazilian, Blanka), and several of the moves from the leaked screenshots appear to have a jiu-jitsu vibe to them, so her nationality is seemingly confirmed. She also looks like a more “fun” character, similar to Rashid and Rainbow Mika. In many of the leaked screenshots, Laura appears to be having a blast with her Street Fighter V fights, rather than the anger that characters like Necalli and Charlie Nash seem to bring to the show.
If this is indeed a true leak and not some elaborate hoax (which seems practically impossible), that brings the number of characters known for Street Fighter V up to fourteen, meaning there are just two roster spots left in the initial roster that is supposed to launch with the game. One of these remaining two spots is supposedly a brand new character, and one a classic character returning for Street Fighter V. With Laura being a seemingly electricity-based Brazilian, that makes it seem unlikely that everyone’s favorite green-skinned jungle monster will be making a return for the game (at least in the initial roster). It will be interesting to see how Capcom handles this leak, and if it changes their reveal strategy for the remaining unannounced characters in Street Fighter V.
