2K Games and Firaxis have officially announced via Twitter that Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been delayed until the second half of 2022. The game was initially slated to be released sometime in March 2022 for various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

The reasoning behind Marvel’s Midnight Suns delay was highlighted in the post on the official Midnight Suns page by creative director Jake Solomon and senior franchise producer Garth DeAngelis. It primarily references the need to give the dev team extra time to add more “story, cinematics, and overall polish” that would be essential in making the team’s vision.

“We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to do justice in delivering an unforgettable adventure set in the supernatural side of Marvel. These extra months will be used to add more story, cinematics, and overall polish and will be essential in helping us make our vision a reality,” a section of the post reads.

Marvel's Midnight Suns

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was originally announced for its March 2022 release at Gamescom 2021 as a strategy, card-based game inspired by 2K’s XCOM series. The name Midnight Suns are derived from the supernatural superhero team from the Marvel Comics, known as the ‘Midnight Sons’, a selection of heroes who generally handle the more supernatural aspects of the Marvel Universe. The game is anticipated to feature a large single-player campaign that could take anywhere from 40-60 hours to beat and will focus on building relationships with several other Marvel characters, and is set in an obscure, supernatural part of the Marvel Comics universe that brings together a huge variety of different superheroes from teams such as the Avengers, the X-Men, and The Runaways.

Players will take control of The Hunter, an original hero created by Marvel and Firaxis, who will lead a team consisting of Doctor Strange, Blade, Captain America, Wolverine, Magik, and others against the evil demon Lilith.
