According to a report from Deadline, comedic actor Kenan Thompson is set to host the 2021 People’s Choice Awards. However, the night may be a double duty for Thompson who is also nominated for two awards. Currently, Thompson is nominated for the categories of “2021 Comedy TV Star” and “Male TV Star”. Both nominations are for his work on Saturday Night Live (SNL).
Kenan Thompson might be one of the busiest actors in the United States. He recently started work on his 19th season on SNL. He is currently the show’s longest-running cast member since joining back in 2003. However, Thompson also leads and serves as an executive producer on the NBC comedy series, Kenan, which is set to return for a second season in 2022. Between both shows, Thompson also appears in a few movies every year — most often doing voice work for movies like Trolls World Tour, The Grinch, and Wonder Park. Despite all that, Kenan Thompson has still found the time to host the 2021 People’s Choice Awards.
The 2021 People’s Choice Awards features several categories spanning movies, music, TV, and pop culture in general. The movie categories are being led by F9 from the Fast and Furious franchise, which has received eight nominations. Five of which are specifically for members of the cast: John Cena, Vin Diesel, and Charlize Theron. For TV, Marvel Studios’ Loki has earned five nominations, including “Show of 2021”. The fifth nomination makes Loki the top contender against several other highly nominated TV shows, such as Ted Lasso, This Is Us, and Grey’s Anatomy, which each had four nominations of their own.
