This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Along with making Inclines, a Ladder is the best way to get around and across higher cliffs in the game. Nevertheless, it’s a bit of a hassle to pull out one every time you need to climb. Island visitors would also need to bring their Ladders since they are not permanent fixtures, unlike Inclines. Thankfully Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides two types of Ladders including permanent ones that you can set up all over your island.

The DIY Recipe for the basic Ladder will be given by Tom Nook after you have placed three plots for Villagers’ homes. Build your own home, Nook’s Cranny, the bridge, and plots, then wait for 3 days. Nook will call you via NookPhone and send the Ladder DIY Recipe.

After you have learned the Recipe, you will need these 3 materials to craft a Ladder:

  • Softwood x4
  • Wood x4
  • Hardwood x4

To unlock Permanent Ladders, you must buy the Ladder Set-Up Kit Recipe for 2,000 Bells from Nook’s Cranny first. Once you have learned the recipe, you can craft a Wooden Ladder Set-up Kit and place Ladders permanently on any cliff you want to access. You need only these two items to craft it:

  • Ladder x1
  • Wood x5

Although it is called a “Permanent Ladder”, you are still able to freely remove them if you need to move the ladders somewhere else. But unlike the basic Ladder, your Villager won’t have to pick it up and put it down every time it is used. To remove a Permanent Ladder you have placed on a cliff, simply press Y to put it back into your inventory.
