Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl: What is Quagsire's Weakness
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

First introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver or Generation II, Quagsire evolves from Wooper starting at level 20. And in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you can also find Quagsire roaming about in Safari Zone/Great Marsh areas or Pokemon Hideaways, specifically in the Fountainspring Cave, Swampy Cave, and Bogsunk Cavern areas. Despite its goofy looks, Quagsire is one of the few Pokemon which has a rare Water/Ground dual-typing, making its weaknesses somewhat elusive. In case you forgot or are a newcomer to the series, read on below for more details on Quagsire’s weaknesses in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Quagsire Stats in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl - Overview Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Quagsire is a Water/Ground-type Pokemon. With that in mind, its only weakness is Grass-type attacks since Water and Ground dual-typing Pokemon are only (extremely) susceptible to Grass attacks. Meanwhile, Quagsire is completely invulnerable to Electric-type attacks, thanks to its second Ground-typing. Yes, this means all Ground-type Pokemon are also immune against Electric-type attacks. It also takes reduced damage from Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel moves.

It’s somewhat important to remember that Quagsire has lower Special Defense stats compared to its Physical Defense. This suggests that you should use Special Grass attacks such as Absorb/Giga Drain/Mega Drain, Leaf Tornado, or Solar Beam to maximize your damage output. For convenience, below is the table that lists Quagsire’s type weaknesses and strengths in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

4x Damage 0.5x Damage 0 Damage
Grass Fire Thunder
Poison
Rock
Steel

Together with Quagsire, here is a (rather short) list of all Pokemon with Water/Ground dual-typing:

  1. Wooper
  2. Quagsire
  3. Mudkip
  4. Marshtomp
  5. Swampert
  6. Barboach
  7. Whiscash
  8. Gastrodon
  9. Palpitoad
  10. Seismitoad

A captured Quagsire can have these abilities:

  • Ability:
    • Damp: Prevents the use of self-destructing moves.
    • Or Water Absorb: Restores HP if hit by a Water-type move.
  • Hidden Ability:
    • Unaware: Ignores any stat changes in the Pokemon.

If you’re looking to get one for your party, here’s the moves Quagsire will get in each level:

  • Base Move: Water Gun – Water
  • Base Move: Tail Whip – Normal
  • Base Move: Rain Dance – Water
  • Base Move: Mud Shot – Ground
  • Level 12: Mist – Ice
