GTA 6 Leaker Hunt Goes Nuclear as Take-Two Demands Discord and Microsoft Hand Over Private Data

6 Star Wanted Level has been activated

The online gaming sphere has been set ablaze after waves of leaked GTA 6 footage hit the internet just days before its Netflix premiere. Courtesy of a hacker called Cyberleek, fans have now caught precious glimpses of the most awaited game of this decade — while Take-Two’s market value dropped by $2.83 billion because of it. After playing DMCA whack-a-mole with the leaked clips and screenshots, the company has now fought back in court, and it’s asking for plenty of receipts.

According to Kotaku’s report, Take-Two has filed multiple DMCA subpoena petitions in federal court. The company is seeking information tied to accounts suspected of posting or circulating those leaked GTA 6 materials. The requests reportedly include sensitive private data, including emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, and linked accounts on Discord, Google, and Microsoft services.

One petition, filed in the Southern District of New York on August 20, specifically targets Cyberleek. It also asked for data on ‘CINEMATICROCKSTAR,’ ‘Surfer24k™,’ and ‘Ødyssey.gg,’ with innocent YouTuber Matthew ‘Matt’ Judge (DarkViperAU) also somehow caught in the crossfire. Microsoft and Discord have reportedly been given until September 4 to produce the requested records.

Despite having its own website taken down and Take-Two’s lawyers ready to come knocking, Cyberleek isn’t slowing down. More leaked footage has been dripfed online, this time showcasing gameplay revolving around a hypercar named Truffade Thrax.

GTA-and-Rockstar-focused creator Videotech then claimed that Rockstar has suffered a separate GTA 6 leak relating to an Xbox Graphics Capture file. “This is not a game build, but it does contain a significant amount of game data, including models and map related spoilers,” he wrote on X. “[…] members of the community have already extracted height maps from the game, as well as a texture for the UI minimap.”

Meanwhile, a supposed ‘GTA 6 CYBERLEEK-buildv.1.0.245’ torrent file has appeared on a Russian site. Don’t get too excited, though; Reddit users quickly called the upload fake, pointing to its suspicious one-day-old uploader account with 3,000 posts.

Cyberleek themselves claimed that they’re leaking GTA 6 footage to protest the game not having a physical disc release. A manifesto posted on their now-inaccessible website also condemned ‘fake DLC’ practices, where developers locked finished content behind additional paywalls. However, in a rather ironic twist, Cyberleek has also used the leaks to peddle a cryptocurrency meme coin — and that money trail might just come back to bite them.

Over on GTAForums, user Vice Cit claims to have traced several crypto wallets associated with Cyberleek’s website, uploads, and meme coin back to one central funding wallet. Following that trail further allegedly leads to KuCoin, a cryptocurrency exchange that requires identity verification. If true, obtaining records from the exchange could offer a way toward unmasking Cyberleek’s identity. They estimated that Cyberleek has already accumulated around $40,000-$60,000 from transaction fees.

For now, the person behind Cyberleek remains a mystery and the leaks keep leaking. But between personal records and a potentially traceable crypto trail, staying hidden could soon become much harder than leaking GTA 6 in the first place.
