Embracer Group has been going on a spending spree as of late. With both purchases this year for Gearbox, Koch Media, and Saber Interactive; the company has been growing exponentially. Building the groundwork for developing new experiences in the gaming industry. The Swedish holding group has been acquiring smaller development teams like Trasier Studios and Aspyr since 2020. Yet recent purchases hint towards a much bigger goal. While the holding group has had a huge year already, the sights are set for something larger. Despite announcing Dark Horse Games just this last June, the company is moving forward. Embracer Group has announced a slew of acquisitions including Dark Horse Comics with hopes to expand all areas of media.

What Does Embracer Group’s Acquisition Mean For Dark Horse Comics?
However, Dark Horse is just the biggest name in a slew of acquisitions. For one, they’ve acquired Spotflim Networx a televised German advertising channel. Embracer Group has also acquired two development studios, Shiver Entertainment and Cryptic Studios. The latter of which publisher, Perfect World Entertainment, worked on the canceled Magic Legends game. Finally, the last acquisition is for the animation studio DIGIC who has created commercials for both Call of Duty Vanguard and Assassins Creed Valhalla. While it’s unclear how all of these new acquisitions will coalesce together, holding Dark Horse’s intellectual property is quite valuable. With characters ranging from Hellboy to the titular Umbrella Academy, there’s plenty of settings and characters to work with. Seeing the potential as video games as an industry grows ever larger, now is a perfect time to see what these characters can do with controllers and players behind them. Seeing how the new acquisition has just taken place, much of those hopes are still a bit far off at the moment. Yet it seems like that opportunity is closer now than ever.
