According to a new report from Deadline, production on the set of Paramount+ TV series Star Trek: Picard has been paused because of an on-set COVID outbreak. Over four dozen cast and crew members on the series tested positive for COVID recently. However, the lead of the show, Patrick Stewart, is not one of them.

Filming for Star Trek: Picard season 2 was paused on Monday in response to the COVID outbreak. However, it is set to restart tomorrow with a limited staff. Over 450 people work on the series during its production. With more than forty of them testing positive for COVID, it may cause delays for Star Trek: Picard season 2 moving forward. However, no delays have yet been confirmed.

Star Trek: Picard is one of many current Star Trek series available through a Paramount+ subscription. The sequel series follows Patrick Stewart, who reprises his role as the titular Picard after retiring from his position in Starfleet as captain of the USS Enterprise. Other stars in the series include Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner.

Patrick Stewart as Picard

While this news is unfortunate for the series and CBS Studios, Star Trek: Picard is not the only production or event being affected by the recent rise in COVID cases in the United States. Production has also been suspended on other TV series, such as NCIS and NCIS: LA, as well as NBC’s Chicago Fire. Several major TV and film events have also been affected, including the Sundance Film Festival, The Book of Boba Fett premiere event, and the Peacemaker premiere event.
