Final Fantasy 7 Remake was met with near-universal praise when it was released on the PS4 in 2020. Similarly, the upgraded PS5 version, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, is one of the best titles on the new system. So naturally, fans have been wondering when the next part of the remake will appear. According to the established leaker, Nate the Hate, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will release in 2023.
The leak also suggests that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is being held up by the delayed development of Final Fantasy 16. Fans found out that development on Final Fantasy 16 was behind schedule when the team failed to get the game ready for its 2021 reveal. While the title was initially announced in September 2021, a “big information reveal” was scheduled for later the same year. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida informed fans that the game was around half a year behind schedule at the end of December.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the delayed development of Final Fantasy 16 had stopped another Sony exclusive title from Square Enix from being announced. In that report, we wrote that “the title awaiting a reveal is not another Final Fantasy game, not a Kingdom Hearts game, and not a Dragon Quest game.” So that takes Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 out of the equation. However, it’s interesting that Final Fantasy 16 could be the cause of multiple titles at Square Enix being delayed.
Square Enix supposedly doesn’t want to take the spotlight away from Final Fantasy 16. This is understandable since it is the flagship game for the company. According to Nate the Hate, if Final Fantasy 16 is delayed out of 2022, then that means Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will be delayed too.
Hopefully, for Final Fantasy 7 Remake fans, development on Final Fantasy 16 goes smoothly for the rest of this year. If it does, perhaps expect a release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 in 2023.
