Nintendo’s do-it-yourself hit Super Mario Maker is getting some much wanted (and needed) items in its newest update. Next week, players will be welcomed to a free software update that will offer up some great new items to utilize.

Mid-level checkpoints are the first pieces to highlight here, an item some have been clamoring for since the game’s release. Most of the want comes from a slew of longer and difficult levels that force you to start from the beginning every time your character dies (which, to be honest, happens a lot). Additionally, they can even be implemented into already created levels. So for those that want to extend a current level, or add a bit of a helping hand to other users, here’s your chance.

There will also be a couple of new sections added to the game. Official Makers is an interesting one, as it will have numerous featured courses, some of which may even come from Nintendo themselves. As the game has some pre-loaded and created levels, it’s a cool approach for the creators to release a challenge of sorts to the game’s players by releasing their own slew of levels.

Under Course World, players will also see a new Event Courses tab next week. This could prove to be another great expanded and out-of-the-box approach for Super Mario Maker. Within this subset, you’ll be able to play levels created by outside companies and sources, companies outside of Nintendo or the online player community. This will be a chance for outsiders to showcase their love for the game, Nintendo, and theme courses as they please. First up will be a level that won the Facebook-partnered hackathon contest, Ship Love.
