I was actually going to be writing a review about the film Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, however, when attempting to find a local theater to view it in I was surprised to find that none of them were screening it apparently. I assumed this had to be a mistake on the part of their websites, but it turns out that there is a very good reason why I couldn’t find a ticket to purchase; Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension is being boycotted by some theatres.
I’m quite late to the party on this, but it still deserves explaining, because the situation is somewhat novel. The studio behind the film, Paramount, struck a deal with AMC Entertainment, the USAs second largest movie theater chain to allow the film to be brought to Paramount streaming service earlier than is normally allowed. Standardly as part of contracts between film studios and the theatres there is a clause which disallows for the film to be sold outside of theatres for at least 90 days after its initial release. This 90 day theater screening window is apparently fairly standard and in striking this deal with AMC, Paramount angered various other theater companies, Regal Cinemas, the country’s largest, among them, and because of this Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension is being boycotted and that is why both you and I may have trouble finding a theater which is playing this film.
