Overwatch is quite a tragedy these days, especially given where it began. After hosting a strong beta and having an incredibly successful launch, the most anyone hears about Overwatch as a game is news regarding the in-development sequel. Of course, part of this is due to the time it’s been, but it’s also in part due to the heavy drop in content updates as of late. Beyond the odd Deathmatch map maybe once a year, we haven’t seen much if any content on its way to the live game. Though to many people’s surprise including mine, that’s about to change in an unusual way. Overwatch has officially announced a brand new Anniversary Remix event, debuting as Volume 1, over on Twitter.

What’s in the New Overwatch Event?

What exactly is this new Overwatch event, you may ask? Well it holds a lot of the same things that past anniversary events have had with various game modes from throughout the year alongside all skins being earnable. Except, instead of that being all there is to Overwatch events., Anniversary Remix adds in six new skins that remix previously released skins in a few new ways. While the team have kept fairly tight-lipped on the details and which skins are being remixed first, we’re hoping “remix” doesn’t mean the same as “recolor”. We’ll have to wait and see though.

With all this being said though, there is one rather massive catch for those that find themselves still playing. While we’re getting the Anniversary Remix events now, the events as you’ve come to know them are going away (Archives, Summer Games, etc.). The team emphasizes this is so they can put further effort into Overwatch 2 and its upcoming PvP beta, though we’ll need to wait for the beta to know if that’s true. Excuse my skepticism, but after all the things we’ve seen of both Overwatch and Blizzard as a whole, it’s hard to take things at face value.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Are you interested in this new style of event for Overwatch? Do you hope for regular events to make a return in Overwatch 2 PvP? Let me know!
