This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

PC gamers have long since used controllers for some video games. Surely the mouse and keyboard can be nice, but the feeling of a specific controller can always make playing games that much better. While many prefer to stick to the input method given to them, a controller for PC games is always an excellent choice. Whether it’s for racing games or twin-stick shooters, the controller will always have its place in specific genres and video games. PlayStation knows it very well, thus why they decided to upgrade their controller. Going from the DualShock4 to a DualSense is undoubtedly a step up from the generation before it. Yet, many were confused as to why PC wouldn’t support certain DualSense features. Sony has released an official firmware updater for the PlayStation 5 controller, so the DualSense can finally be updated on PC.

PC players can now update their DualSense wireless controller with the latest firmware from Windows 11 and select Windows 10 devices, without connecting to a PS5. Details: https://t.co/PF5E3VnoXM pic.twitter.com/PF2ASo8Fw6

What Does The DualSense Firmware Updater Do For PC Players?

While the purpose of these patches ranges from minimal to crucial, there are many reasons why Sony would want to do this. Yet, many people are wondering what took so long for them to make the basic firmware updater. Patches that can improve the connectivity or fix bugs are simple by inserting the USB. Updating the firmware can be essential to a smooth PC gaming experience. It also gives the opportunity for more games to easily locate the controller. Identifying the DualSense as an input for certain video games is crucial for launchers to recognize it as a controller. Despite Steam working natively, many other apps do not. Now with the firmware tool, it’s only a matter of time before these issues become bugs of the past.
