Marvel fans are a few weeks away from the second movie for the studio of the year. AMC has revealed that the Thor: Love and Thunder length will be one of the shortest for Thor and the rest of the MCU, with a runtime of one hour and 59 minutes or 119 minutes.
Thor: Love and Thunder having a length under two hours makes it the third in years to reach that timeframe. 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp was the previous film to have a shorter runtime with one hour and 58-minute length (118 minutes), a whole minute longer than Paul Rudd’s debut in the MCU. Before that, we had the first Doctor Strange in 2016 at one hour and 55 minutes (115 minutes). On average, most of the films have been over the two-hour mark.
In the beginning, before these characters dominated the big screen were shorter movies overall. Thor happens to be tied for the shortest in the entire MCU. Both Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk are an hour and 52 minutes (112 minutes). Dark World came out in 2013, and in 2014 was the start of superheroes pushing how long people would be sitting in theaters for the genre with The Winter Soldier‘s two hours and 16 minutes (136 minutes).
As Taika Waititi returns to direct the God of Thunder, he can say he has led the longest Thor and one of the shorter entries in the MCU with the length of Thor: Love and Thunder. Ragnarok, Waititi’s first time working with Marvel Studios, is the longest standalone adventure for the Asgardian at two hours and 10 minutes (130 minutes).
Thor: Love and Thunder Length and More
Beyond its length, Thor: Love and Thunder will see the return of major and more minor characters in the universe. The film will star Chris Hemsworth in the titular role, Natalie Portman, returning properly since The Dark World, Tessa Thompson, and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy except for Zoe Saldana.
The film will feature plenty of newcomers. Most notably, fans will be introduced to Zeus, played by Russell Crowe, and the antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters on July 8th.
