  • Using the Meltan Mystery Box

If you want to add a Mythical Meltan to your Pokedex in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to get a Mystery Meltan Box. These aren’t available for purchase. Instead, they’re given out as gifts if you meet specific requirements. It involves linking your Nintendo account and sending Pokemon from Pokemon Go to a different place. Be sure you’re ready to part with your pocket monsters. Once the transfer is done, it’s a one-way journey. But it’ll all be worth it to score this elusive Mythical companion.

The only way to earn a Mystery Box in Pokemon Go is to transfer Pokemon, so let’s work toward getting our Meltan. Just follow the steps below and you’ll start catching this adorable blob of a pocket monster in no time. Be sure you have a Nintendo account set up before you start.

Nintendo Switch Transfer

Be sure to have your Switch on and ready to go with your game. It’ll make the process easier so you can earn the Meltan Box in Pokemon Go faster:

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and launch Pokemon Go.
  2. Go to Pokeball Menu > Settings > Connected Devices and Services > Nintendo Switch
  3. Your phone will automatically search for the Switch to pair with.
  4. On the Switch, go to Settings > Open Pokemon Go Settings > Pair an Account
  5. Launch whatever Let’s Go game you have and go to Fuchsia City and the Go Park complex. Don’t talk to anyone yet.
  6. On your phone in Pokemon Go, open the Pokemon storage and you’ll see the Nintendo Switch icon in the top right corner. Select it to view Pokemon eligible for transfer.
  7. Choose the Pokemon you want to transfer and select Send to Nintendo Switch.
  8. Back on the Switch in Let’s Go, talk with the Go Park attendant and select Bring Pokemon.
  9. Choose any park that has space and start the transfer process.
  10. Return to Pokemon Go and the Meltan Box should be in your inventory.

Pokemon HOME Transfer

This method is ideal so that anyone who doesn’t own a Switch can still get the Mystery Meltan Box in Pokemon Go. The app is free to download on mobile devices and easy to use:

  1. Download and launch Pokemon HOME and sign into your Nintendo account. You can go through the brief conversation first if you’d like.
  2. Launch Pokemon Go and go to Pokeball Menu > Settings > Connected Devices and Services > Pokemon HOME
  3. Sign into your Nintendo account and choose to Send Pokemon.
  4. You’ll be shown how much GO Transporter Energy you have. From there, select which Pokemon you want to transfer.
  5. Once completed, return to Pokemon HOME and accept the transfer. You must accept the transfer or you won’t receive the Mystery Box.
  6. The Mystery Box should now be in your inventory in Pokemon Go. If it isn’t relaunch the game and check again.

Using the Meltan Mystery Box

Now that you have the Mystery Box, you can activate it in Pokemon Go and catch Meltan. The outcome is the same whether you standing still or moving about. Meltan will randomly spawn around you for 60 minutes. The only thing you must prepare for is how difficult Mythical Meltan can be to catch.

The weaker ones take little effort, so feel free to use your Pinap Berries to increase the amount of Candy you get. Meanwhile, higher-rated Meltan will struggle. Go into it with enough Poke Balls (stronger ones) and some Berries so you don’t miss out.

It’ll take 400 Meltan Candies to reach its evolution though. Thankfully, you can score a new Mystery Meltan Box each time you transfer from Pokemon Go as the process works every seven days. So, as long as you have Pokemon, you can catch enough Meltan to evolve it into the epic Melmetal.
