Chris Claremont reveals his next comics project is X-Treme X-Men (to the second power). Earlier this week, Claremont spoke with Bleedingcool about what is in the future for the legendary comic writer. After the launch of the much-delayed Gambit series with Sid Kotian, Claremont is focusing on the mutant superhero team once more. This new iteration of X-Treme X-Men is sure to be as amazing as the first.
What is X-Treme X-Men?
The original X-Treme X-Men (without the square) is the name of a comic book series from Marvel in the early 2000s. Chris Claremont wrote the series focusing on an X-Men team that traveled the world led by Storm. Artist Salvador Larroca drew the initial 24 issues of the series. However, Igor Kordey handled the final 22 of the series. While the series was revived a few years later, Claremont did not handle writing duties. Instead, Greg Pak took over, and the series followed a new cast of mutants led by Dazzler.
The series is viewed as separate from the main X-Men series, which was taken over by Grant Morrison from Claremont. Claremont’s initial run of X-Treme X-Men featured Storm leading fellow mutants Rogue, Gambit, Bishop, Sage, Psylocke, Thunderbird, Beast, and Lifeguard. Other regulars included Cannonball, Slipstream, Shadowcat, Sunspot, and more.
What Do We Know About The Revival?
Chris Claremont is returning to the series, but that is all we know so far. Of course, with the added exponent, it stands to reason that the series will be exponentially bigger. However, it is a mystery how the series will use that exponent to make this new team more X-Treme. With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, it is likely that an official announcement from Marvel will be had. Until then, we can all speculate wildly on how Claremont plans to up the ante this time around in X-Treme X-Men (squared).
