A little while ago I reported on PS2 games running via emulation on the PS4. At the time, this was sort of a mysterious event, as although Sony confirmed that this was going on, the future of this technology and their plans for it continued to be unknown.  We do not have all of the answers, but as of now some decent guesses can be made about what Sony intends to do with their PS2 emulation technology.

On December 4th in order to continue the celebration of PlayStation’s 20th year going on at the PlayStation Experience, Sony released eight PS2 titles onto the PS4 PlayStation Store.  The list and prices are as follows:

  • Dark Cloud — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99

These PS2 titles will all come with trophy support, with the trophies being created under consultation from the original developers of the games, in order to capture the spirit and feelings of each game. In addition to trophies “ you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before — in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.”  There is still no word as to whether or not these games will feature online play or not.

Are you a diehard PS2 fan?  Are there any old school games you would like to see resurrected through the magic of emulation?  Still hoping that you will be able to play your PS2 discs by inserting them into your PS4? Tell us about it in the comments below.
