Peacock has released a trailer for Vampire Academy, the streamer’s adaption of the young adult novels by Richelle Mead. The series comes from Vampire Diaries actress and producer of The Originals, Marguerite MacIntyre, and writer and producer of Vampire Diaries, Julie Plec.

Vampire Academy will follow the relationship between Rose Hathaway (Sisi Stringer) and Lissa Dragomir (Daniela Nieves), who is part human and part vampire. They enter the vampire society with Lissa being royalty and Rose as a protector. The series will also star Jennifer Kirby (Call the Midwife), Craig Stevenson (The Machinist), Louisa Connolly-Burnham (Wolfblood), and Alex Hafner (Cable Girls).

The Vampire Academy novels were written by Mead between 2007 and 2010 and consisted of six books in the series. The name comes from the first novel, followed by Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, and Last Sacrifice. Plec and MacIntyre will serve act as co-showrunners, co-writers, and executive producers. Plec will direct some episodes. Emily Cummins, Don Murphy, Susa Montford, Deepak Nayar, and Jillian DeFrehn will executive produce.

Known for the CW adaption of Vampire Diaries and as a fan of the series of novels by Mead, Plec made this dream project come true. When given the option to make what she wanted by Universal Television, her “immediate answer was Vampire Academy.”

The series is not the first attempt at an adaption, as there was a 2014 film adaptation of Vampire Academy. It was directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls) and written by Daniel Waters (Demolition Man). It starred Zoey Deutch (Zombieland: Double Tap), Lucy Fry (Godfather of Harlem), Damila Kozlovskiy (Vikings), and Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary). The film was received poorly and grossed $15 million worldwide off its $30 million budget.

Peacock will release Vampire Academy on September 15 with 10 episodes, each running for an hour.
