Marvel’s unexpected re-entry into AAA gaming in recent years has, to date, produced incredibly mixed results. We’ve seen marvelous hits like Marvel’s Spider-Man, middling titles like Guardians of the Galaxy, and other-worldly technical horrors like Marvel’s Avengers. Ensuring consistent quality standards never seems to have crossed Marvel’s mind. That said, as the Marvel’s Midnight Suns trailer indicates, this laissez-faire attitude toward Marvel games might finally now be changing, thanks to a bit of help from Firaxis.
Firaxis has gained a reputation over the past few decades for consistently putting out high-quality turn-based strategy games. Chiefly among these honorable mentions are the XCOM and Civilization franchises. Anyone who’s ever pitted themselves against Nuclear Gandhi, or faced down an alien invasion, can attest to this. Now, they’re turning their attention to the expanding Marvel gaming universe.
Become The Hunter. Embrace The Darkness
In the Marvel’s Midnight Suns trailer, the player is seen taking control of an ambiguous customizable character known currently only as The Hunter. While the full extent of The Hunter’s abilities and playstyle remains unknown, fans did get a glimpse at some of what they might expect. Melee attacks were prominently displayed, although charged kinetic energy attacks also remain a strong component. Given the character’s supernatural background, as the half-human, half-demon child of the demon Lilith, players can count on wielding dark magic for heroic means. For those fearing the power of dark magic, you may be comforted knowing The Hunter will be accompanied by their own pet demon doggy.
How soon is Marvel’s Midnight Suns releasing?
Marvel’s Midnight Suns have rapidly become the victim of repeated developmental delays. What was originally a March 2022 release window was later replaced by a new October 2022 release window. However, the game has recently once again gotten itself pushed back, this time to 2023. It’s presently unclear whether Marvel plans to commit to this third release estimation. Hopefully, players will be able to save the world in this newest Marvel game sooner rather than later. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
