Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have recently announced that new Pokemon 2DS systems, themed around Pokemon, are coming to Japan. Preorders started 12/26 for four Pokémon-themed variants of the 2DS. Each system is already installed with a version of Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow, depending on the color.
In celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, the bundle will come with a version-specific menu theme, stickers, a code for Mew, and poster with a map of the Kanto region. If you are looking for a code to download Mew for the latest Pokemon games, and more, head to this page to get all the details. A limited supply is available for pre-order via Amazon Japan, Pokemon Center stores, TOYS R US, TSUTAYA, and other retailers. Each model costs 9,980 yen, or about $83 — the 2DS has cost $99 in the US since a price drop earlier this year.
The bundle will be available in Japan starting February 27, the very same day the original Pokémon games will be re-released worldwide via the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. There’s no word at this time if a similar package is being planned for an international release. Better get ready to import unless there’s an announcement made here in the coming weeks for the west! We will let you know if this exclusive becomes available anywhere else in the world. Stay tuned for details!
