It has been a very long road, Final Fantasy fans. We have been waiting for what was initially namedย Final Fantasy Versus, now titled Final Fantasy XV, for over a decade. Many of us were even assuming the worst at some point, expecting the game to be cancelled due the prolonged developmentย of the game. Well, our wait is almost over, and we can probably throw a gigantic party now.ย Final Fantasy XVย is guaranteed to release by the end of the year for PS4 and Xbox One.

This news comes straight from game director Hajime Tabata, who announcedย Final Fantasy XV’sย 2016 release window in a New Yearโ€™s blog post. A release forย 2016 was already strongly hinted and speculated at, but now it’s absolutely confirmed. ย Tabata earlier confirmedย that the game was in its final phase of development, andย Final Fantasy XVย is now playable from start to finish.

“We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016!” Tabata said. “In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.”

Here’s more from Tabata’s statement:

“I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft. We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.”

“The whole FFXV team appreciates all of the support from each and everyone one of you this past year. I cannot tell you how much it means to all of us.”

The next Active Time Report, where more news about Final Fantasy XV is expected to be divulged, is scheduled for later this month. We will keep you posted if we hear any additional news about the game. Stay tuned for details!

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
