The second season of Daredevil has an official premiere date, as fans of the series will be able to re-visit Marvel’s Hell Kitchen on March 25th, 2016.
Netflix’s Daredevil premiered on April 10th, 2015, was renewed for a second season ten days later, and many thought that the second season would premiere around mid to late April, with the change in showrunners and the growing Easter Eggs available to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Not so, as Marvel and Netflix have decided to launch the second season of The Man Without Fear’s story on the same day as the premiere of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The second season of Daredevil will feature Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Elodie Yung as Elektra, and is rumored to also introduce Mister Fear and Mysterio. Also, since negotiations between Marvel and Jason Statham, who was up for the role of Bullseye, broke off, neither Marvel nor Netflix have confirmed if Bullseye will be in this season.
The release of the Daredevil probably won’t affect Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, it is worth noting we haven’t seen anything like this before. We haven’t seen a highly touted film go up directly against a hotly anticipated Netflix series. It will be interesting to see this pan out, but I’m just glad Daredevil will return so soon.
The Marvel-Netflix universe is growing. Daredevil is just one of four Marvel superheroes who will join together to form The Defenders, a mini-series Netflix exclusive event. Jessica Jones premiered in November to critical acclaim (you can check out our review of that series here), and Luke Cage is currently filming for its first season. Iron Fist recently acquired a showrunner and is now casting for principal leads. There has even been talk of, should he be so well received, creating a Punisher mini-series.
