The best and most widely used weapons in the Call of Duty series are typically assault rifles. The ARs are more potent than usual in Modern Warfare 2. When building their loadouts, Modern Warfare 2 gives players 8 choices of assault, one of which is a serious candidate for the best weapon in the game. However, which is the best?

S-Tier ( Kastov-74U, M4)
The Kastov-74U, a mighty rifle that combines best-in-class stopping capability with excellent mobility, is the best assault rifle in MW2. The Kastov-74U is pretty simple to manage for mid-range conflicts, but it kicks quite a bit upwards and is best suited for aggressive close-range battles.
The M4 and M16 share the highest rate of fire and lowest damage per round of all Assault Rifles. When partial and empty reloads are considered, it shares the fastest reload time with the M16 and has an average Aim Down Sight (ADS) speed.
A-Tier (STB 556, Lachmann-556, Kastov 762)
The STB 556’s minimal recoil and great range make eliminating enemies at distances greater than 30 meters simple. The STB 556 is also ludicrously controllable when equipped with the correct combination of attachments and pushed to its absolute limits, and I mean practically no recoil.
Although not the lowest of all ARs, the Lachmann-556 has an average fire rate and minor damage per round. It has an average time to kill for headshots and body shots at all ranges.
When creating your next Assault class, consider the Kastov 762, Modern Warfare 2‘s equivalent of the AKM or AK47. Although it is less forgiving than the M4 or Lachmann-556, it outperforms both in terms of pure damage.
B-Tier (Kastov 545, TAQ-56, M16)
Except for the slower Aim Down Sight speed and conventional AR hip-fire spread, the Kastov 545 and Kastov-74U are extremely comparable weapons.
The TAQ-56 is one of the least preferable options because it has one of the average damage profiles and the second-slowest fire rates of all Assault Rifles. It has the best reload time and an average ADS speed, but strangely, an empty reload will impair performance because it is much slower.
In Modern Warfare 2, the M16 is the only assault rifle without a fully automatic fire setting. Burst mode is incredibly inaccurate; even at close range, a kill requires at least two blasts.
