Although Pokémon Scarlet and Violet boast many new Pokémon, there are still classic ones roaming around from previous generations. One of these throwback Pokémon is Sunkern, a 2nd Generation creature. Interested in feeling nostalgic? Or perhaps you’re new and simply want a “retro” Pokémon in your Pokédex? Regardless of your reasonings, you can find and catch Sunkern in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by following our guide.

Find and Catch Sunkern in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Find and Catch Sunkern

If you have ever played the classic Pokémon Gold and Silver, Sunkern is a familiar companion that originally hailed from the Johto region. Now, you can find Sunkern in various areas in Paldea. This little creature still enjoys hanging around flowers, though.

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can find and catch Sunkern in numerous areas:

  • Asado Desert
  • Glaseado Mountain
  • Tagtree Thicket
  • East Paldean Sea
  • The Pokémon League
  • North Province (Areas One and Two)
  • South Province (Areas One, Two, Four, Five, Six)
  • West Province (Area One)

There are plenty of chances for you to get Sunkern in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, this Grass-type Pokémon is remarkably small. So, you might pass by them a few times before realizing it.

Their bright stripe coloring helps to make them more noticeable, however. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for them loitering around in flower biomes.

Sunkern is not the strongest Grass-type around. However, if you didn’t go for this type when choosing your starter Pokémon, they aren’t bad to have as a substitute for a while. Look at their stats below to get an idea of using them in battle:

  • HP: 30
  • Attack: 30
  • Defense: 30
  • Special Attack: 30
  • Special Defense: 30
  • Speed: 30

Because of their dainty size and low stats, Sunkern is more like a nice companion to look at once you find them in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

If you get yourself a Sun Stone, you can evolve Sunkern into Sunflora to make them a bit stronger and worthwhile to use. You can’t buy Sun Stones, though. So, you have to wander a bit in search of items if you want to unlock Sunkern’s evolution. Sun Stones are typically found in the Asado Desert region, so you might find one at the same time you catch a Sunkern in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Now that you know where to look and even how to evolve them, it’s time to get out there and search for the adorable Sunkern.
