Fans of That ’70s Show officially have something to celebrate with the release of the first teaser for That ’90s Show, a sequel of the original series coming soon to Netflix. The teaser features Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith returning as Kitty and Red Forman, heads of the Forman family and hosts to a brand-new generation of teenage troublemakers.
First premiering in 1998, That ‘70s Show centers around Eric Forman (Topher Grace), a well-meaning teenager living with his parents Red (Smith) and Kitty (Rupp) in Point Place, Wisconsin. Together Eric and best friend-turned-foster brother Steven (Danny Masterson), friends Michael (Ashton Kutcher) and Jackie (Mila Kunis), and longtime girlfriend (and later fiancée) Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon) have to navigate growing up in the complicated world of the 1970s and find their own paths in life, with Eric becoming a teacher and moving to Africa, Michael raising his daughter after an affair leads to an unexpected pregnancy, Steven meeting his biological father and opening a record store chain, and Donna briefly breaking up with Eric before restarting their romance near the end of the series.
Everything We Know About ‘That ’90s Show’ on Netflix
That ‘90s Show, a sequel to the original series which takes place roughly twenty years later, was first announced by Netflix in October 2021. This time, the series will feature Eric and Donna’s teenage daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) as she goes to live with her grandparents for the summer, meeting next-door neighbor Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide) in the process. As Gwen introduces Leia to her friends – including her brother Nate (Maxwell Donovan), Nate’s girlfriend Nikki (Sam Morelos), Ozzie (Reyn Doi), and Jay (Mace Coronel), Leia “realizes adventure could happen there just like it did for her parents all those years ago”, according to PEOPLE Magazine.
The new teaser for That ‘90s Show has Red and Kitty showing Leia and company to the Forman’s basement, the notorious hangout spot for Eric and his friends back in the day and a familiar sight to fans of the original show. Kitty tells the teens that “the basement is all yours,” while Red warns them to keep their “lights on, shorts on, and no dancing” – of course, the teens start dancing, drinking, and smoking almost immediately. Kitty and Red do eventually put a stop to the mischief downstairs, sending everyone home with baked goods and mixed messages of “get out” and “Don’t be a stranger!”
PEOPLE Magazine continues, “With a basement full of teens again, Kitty is happy the Forman house is now a home for a new generation and Red is, well…Red.”
